Give your mum a gift to make her glow!

So as we approach Spring 2019 (despite the weather) its a good time to assess our health needs. I seem to be surrounded by friends suffering from colds and viruses at the minute and thankfully have not succumbed to any of them yet (I credit this to my regular use of Liposomal Vitamin C!)

With March also comes Mother’s Day, the perfect time to treat your mums to something different rather than the usual flowers & chocolates. As a single mum I normally get hand made gifts which I love but for my own mum (a breast cancer survivor, 10 years clear) I like to give her health related presents and normally an additional treat that I put thought into (I am still thinking!)

Below are some ideas for your mum, I have included some of my favourite skin care products too as who doesn’t love glowing skin to hide the tiredness of chasing around after our kids!

First up is from Magnitone. If you haven’t heard of them they sell a range of products and devices for your skin. I recently purchased a daily cleansing & toning skin brush and have fallen in love! It’s so easy to add to your skincare routine and perfect for busy mums as its all over in a minute (literally) and my skin feels so soft and smooth after using. After just one week I can notice improvements in my skin which is a dream for me as I suffer from dry skin on my face which has dramatically improved. These devices are £90 RRP but at the time of writing Look Fantastic have them on offer at a bargain £63. Perfect for mum or yourself, get dropping those hints to your partner and/or kids now!

A great all rounder product for women is Quicksilver Scientific Dr Chris Shades Thrivagen. A liquid herbal blend that can support the female endocrine system. Thrivagen can help support regular menstrual cycles, balanced mood and immunity, resilience, endurance, and healthy sleep. This is a great energy booster and so its perfect for mums on the go, whether that may be at work or chasing after little ones all day and crashing at night. Priced at £53.95 and uses a liposomal delivery system for higher absorption.

SkinGlo Collagen is up next, what’s great about this one I hear you ask, well… it really works. My dry skin on my face and arms has cleared up using this and my Magnitone brush. My mum has even complimented me saying my skin looks good lately and when I put my make up on its not going patchy, I actually have achieved a bit of a glow. It has a lovely exotic fruit taste so no need to worry about it tasting like seaweed (I have tried some that do!) and uses liposomal technology to give the product up to 8 times higher absorption to the bloodstream than other supplements. I love this product so much that I will be stocking it in the near future but for now you can buy direct from SkinGlo it costs £54.99 for a one off purchase of 14 sachets or you can select a subscription option. They also do a version for men which can be seen on their website as well as reviews of the product.

I don’t know about anyone else but I often walk into a room and forget why I’m there or attempt to put the milk in the tea cupboard. I found that once I became a mum this forgetfulness increased and as I work full time I often have to be reminded of things. The solution to this same in the form of Revive Active Mastermind. This product was actually formulated in collaboration with the University of Northumbria – the Brain Performance Nutrition Centre and I find it really helps with mental clarity for me. Mastermind has become a popular product with University students to help their focus when revising for exams but for us mums it can help when we are trying to multitask! Currently on sale at £28.13 at the time of writing. Normal RRP is £37.50

Another amazing product is Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm. I have searched high and low for a cleansing balm that I really love for my skin and finally got my answer in this product. It comes with a handy cleansing cloth and my skin always feels so clean & fresh after each use. The great thing about this balm is it lasts ages thanks to the fact that you only need to use a small amount each time and it smells divine thanks to the essential oils. Perfect for boosting your skin and getting a dewy look. This cleansing balm can also be used on clean skin as a mask or overnight treatment but mostly I use it at night time or when I come home from work to let my skin breathe. At £47 it may seem pricier than other cleansers on the market but there’s a reason for that… its better! Can be purchase from a multitude of beauty sites all for the same price including Cult Beauty

Finally, I know I bang on about Vitamin C a lot but only because it really is the most important vitain in my opinion, mostly because our bodies don’t make it naturally yet it is a vital supplement for our diets. A lovely gift for mum or yourself is Sufficient C. It contains an impressive 200mg Vitamin C per scoop and is 100% water soluble. There is also added benefits from Green Tea extract and Bromelain. The benfits of this product are increased hydration, immune system support, reducing inflammation and is high in antioxidants. Sufficient C is Non GMO, sugar free, vegan and caffeine free. It comes in two sizes, 250 mg or a handy 125mg travel sized pot. There are price options for bulk buying on this one but prices start at £20.45 for one 125 gram pot.

I hope everyone has a lovely Mothers Day this year and at the very least gets a little lie in!

Opinions are all my own and Magnitone, SkinGlo and Emma Hardie or any supplier did not give me products to review (sadly).

And as always these products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Challenge yourself in 2019

Another year is over and I for one definitely indulged at the end of 2018. I still have a house full of chocolate that I am trying to give to visitors to remove the temptation! I am taking on dry January as part of a detox despite the fact that several friends and family members bought me Gin for Christmas ( I will hold on to these despite the temptation, I think I have enough for the whole year!)

I have set myself a few challenges for 2019 as well as a dry January but these goals have only begun today (Monday 7th). So today I have started my diet as the pounds appear to have creeped on since summer ended, I don’t follow any specific diet as I am no stranger to having to shift the pounds. Ever since I had my son I find it so much harder to keep myself slim and have to be more conscious of what I eat. I have set myself a target of mid march to reach my desired target, normally I don’t focus on weight but how I feel in my own skin as the numbers on the scale don’t mean much nowadays but rather being happy with my body and there is a little too much on my waist and arms at the minute.

Another goal is to brighten up my skin, part of fixing my diet will help with this, adding in lots of fresh fruit and leafy greens work wonders for your skin, reducing my coffee intake and replacing with plenty of fresh alkaline water and of course supplements to get a higher intake of vitamins than cannot be acquired by diet alone.

So what will I be taking? Firstly I am going to up my Vitamin C game. I take two sachets a day of liposomal vitamin C (more when I am run down) but from today I will be taking four, since it has been proven that 3 a day can improve skin by 33% in four weeks, I’m hoping that four will give me that little bit extra and also fight off seasonal colds that we can expect in January.

IMG_1873

Second I will be taking Beauty complex, one that I have mentioned before simply because I love it so much! I will continue with one sachet a day which provides Marine collagen, Phyto ceramides and Hyaluronic acid, so many of my friends wouldn’t be without this product after trying it. After finishing their first box they are hooked with reports of improvements in dry skin, brightness and overall appearance! I use my Promixx vortex mixer for my beauty complex which whizzes the powder and water together with no lumps and is a handy drinking bottle to have at my desk. They are also great for anyone who takes protein supplements or shakes and prices start from £18.95

Next I shall be introducing a whole family of B Vitamins using just one supplement. B vitamins are important for healthy hair, skin, nails, eyes and liver as well as playing an important role in converting  food into energy and helping the body metabolise fats and proteins. For this I will use a B complex (liposomal of course!) and my absolute favourite is Dr Chris Shades Methyl B. This has B1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12 as well as Milk thistle extract which is perfect to aid digestion and detoxification. For this I will be taking one dose per day as per the label.

Finally I will be adding in routine exercise to tone my mum tum! I am not the best at finding time for exercise but I have purchased an exercise bike (that hopefully will not end up masquerading as a clothes hanger!) so that once my son is in bed and my daily chores complete I can attempt a minimum of 30 minutes on. Since I can watch TV at the same time this shouldn’t be a difficult task to complete, I am starting with an aim of four nights a week to fit around my sons evening classes and activities. Walking to the shop more is also on the cards and me and son quite enjoy this one as there is a lovely walk way by the river with ducks etc that take us to the supermarket.

I would love to hear what everyone else has as their goals, resolutions or changes for 2019? I know many people don’t bother with resolutions as they feel it is a fad that is long forgotten by the end of January but for every 9 people that quit the gym in a few weeks there is that one that sticks at it, I really hope that by March I can comfortably squeeze into my jeans again!

A follow up at the end of this month with how I am getting on will hopefully be filled with progress, I suppose I should take some before pictures today… *shudders* at the thought!

Giveaway!

I am giving away a Promixx vortex mixer over on my twitter so why not head over to @Proactive_blog for your chance to win! Closes Friday 11th January 2018 at 12pm. Open to EU residents

Perfect gifts to surprise your loved ones

We’re so close to Christmas to now and a lot of people will be super organised with all of their gifts bought, wrapped and under the tree, but, if you’re like me you may well still have a lot to get and be stumped about what to buy certain people so I’ve put together a few ideas that will hopefully help get those hard to buy for people!

The beauty lover

It can be hard to chose skincare products for someone else as you don’t know their skin type or concerns. They have preferential brands or their skin could be sensitive to certain ingredients. In this instance I recommend going for Revive Active beauty complex to nourish their skin from within! Filled with Vitamin C, Marine Collagen, phytoceramides and Hyaluronic acid it is the perfect treat to give them! A 21 day supply is £39.95 and after only one box many people start to notice a difference in their skin already! I have recommended this one to a few of my friends who now swear by it, especially for keeping dry skin away!

Your mother in law (or mum)

My favourite choice here is Wild Ferns Bee Venom night cream with Manuka honey. I love this one as while it reduces the appearance of fine lines it isn’t called ‘anti aging skin cream’ so won’t cause any offence in case your MIL thinks you are trying to give her a hint. It leaves your skin luxuriously soft and hydrated and the Bee Venom assists in encouraging increased circulation allowing nutrients to flow into the skin tissue. It costs £19.95 for a 50g pot.

The gym junkie

Going to the gym is more popular than ever and today’s society are always looking for this next big thing in nutrition, health and fitness. For the gym lover in your family I recommend a vortex mixer for them to mix those protein shakes with ease. It can be used to mix all sorts of liquids (you can even scramble your eggs) With a handy USB charging point there is no need for batteries and it has a handy sports flip cap for drinking out of. Trust me they will love it! There are a few brands on the market but I love the Twister power at £34.95 which is dishwasher safe and has a 600ml capacity.

The student

Is someone in your family at university studying hard and maybe burning the candle at both ends? Give them the gift of mental clarity this Christmas with Revive Active Mastermind, this super supplement contributes to brain and cognitive function, mental performance and nervous system function. Prices start at £12.95 and this one has got such great reviews!

Revive Active Mastermind

The party princess (or prince!)

Got a family member who loves a good get together with plenty of food & drink? Why not get them a holiday hangover bundle. Designed to support your liver, digestive system, immune function and enhance your energy levels whilst detoxifying this bundle of products will restore them to their best selves after too many toasts an several roasts this holiday season. A collection of four products in this bundle at a discounted price of £131.95 may make it seem like an expensive choice for a gift but it would be worth it! Contains Milk Thistle, Glutathione, Dr Shades Bitter X and a box of Quinton Hypertonic. This would also make a great purchase for yourself to share with the adults in your home over the festive season. for a little recovery!

The new mum (and/or Dad) for the baby

I had my son just before Christmas and found myself inundated with gifts of new baby clothes, I appreciated them all but he never got to wear most of it before he changed clothing sizes. I think what new mums really need are nappies (if you know what brand) and vouchers would be a great idea to buy other supplies, milk/bottles/muslins etc Another idea is to buy some baby bath or skincare items and my favourite is Child’s Farm. They have a great range of gentle products to bath babies hair and skin, they come in lovely scents and are free from dairy, GMO’s, Nuts, parabens, pork and wheat. Picking a few and putting them together with a hooded towel would make a lovely gift that would be practical.

For the whole family

Finally I recommend you buy a gift for the whole family in the form of Your Zooki Vitamin C. With so many colds and flus about at this time of year sometime its good to use a preventative measure to protect your family since we all know their is no cure for the common cold. I find the best way to do this is to take a high dose vitamin c everyday to support and enhance your immune function to fight it away. Whilst there are many on the market my favourite at the moment is Your Zooki as it has no alcohol, dairy, caffeine, sugar and is vegan friendly! Prices start at £34.95 for 30 sachets.

Feed your skin to nourish from within!

With the beauty industry booming it can be overwhelming when trying to find the best products for your skin whilst still staying within a reasonable budget. As someone who suffers from dry, sensitive skin I have tried a fair amount of products and even have to chose my make up with care so that I don’t end up drying my face even further. There are masses of creams that say they will make us look younger, more radiant and improve our skin elasticity but I have discovered the best way to treat and look after my skin is from within!

Yes the outside does need care, cleansing off the toxins we are exposed too everyday and dirt that clogs our pores should be removed but in order to make a real difference to the signs of aging I use a few products that have not only cleared my dry skin but have definitely made it look more radiant.

First on my list is Revive Active Beauty complex. With 7000mg of marine collagen per sachet 100mg Phytoceramides 100mg Hyaluronic Acid as well as Vitamins C & E it is a magic product that after 3 weeks of taking a sachet daily produced noticeable changes to my skin. This product is backed by Harley Street doctors and one that I will definitely continue to use. I take mine in the morning and you simply pour the sachet into a glass and fill up with water. It mixes well and I just drink it in one go before I head off to work. You can start to see results from this product around the 14 day mark with your complexion starting look more rejuvenated.

Even though there is Vitamin C in the beauty complex I add more vitamin C to my daily routine. Liposomal Vitamin C can be taken in ‘mega’ doses and doesn’t incur the gastric upset associated with regular vitamin c fizzies and pills. Clinical tests have been done to prove that it can improve your skin elasticity in just a couple of weeks and many cIMG_2062elebrities have shared that their glowing skin is due to liposomal vitamin c usage! This is due to the fact that Vitamin C increases collagen production in our body which can reduce fine lines, wrinkles and can help treat scar tissue. And lets not forget that Vitamin C boosts our immune system at the same time! As our body doesn’t make its own vitamin C it should be top of everyone’s list and in my opinion the more the better. My favourite at the moment is Your Zooki. Unlike many other liposomal vitamin C’s on the market it has no alcohol it also has no diary, no sugar, no gluten, no soy, is non GMO and is vegan friendly!

What we eat plays a huge role in the condition of our skin. Foods high in saturated fat can lead to break outs and excess oil. Eating a high alkaline diet and adding as much fruit and vegetables to our diet is important so that we feed our bodies a healthy dose of minerals, antioxidants and vitamins. The saying ‘we are what we eat’ if taken in regards to our skin could be the cause of many peoples skin related issues. Yes we all like to indulge but limiting that as much as possible will benefit your skin and may help clear breakouts, redness or dryness. When I decided to combat my dry skin I took a hard look and found my diet to be lacking in mineral rich foods and the amount of water I was drinking was a good bit below the recommended daily amount (too much coffee instead!) I made some changes and now I sit at work with a jug of alkaline water beside me that I sip at throughout the day. I bring fruit with me for snacks and I always ensure that there are plenty of vegetables with my dinner. With my supplements on top of that I feel that my skin is improving everyday and recently a friend commented on a photo asking how I still look so young (I do love a compliment!)

I would love to hear what products everyone else uses to treat their skin, maybe you have some tips or things that you take that have made a real difference, I’d love to hear them in the comments below! The brands I love for the surface of my skin are Green Angel Skincare, Wild Ferns and Kiehls. In the future I will do a post showing my favourite products and a review of them against competing ones!

Use the products links in the text above until midnight on Black Friday (23/11/18) and you can get 30% off Revive Active Beauty complex and 20% off the Wild Ferns range that has a wonderful bee venom range and a Manuka honey night cream that is fabulous!

Vitamin C and the common cold

In my family we are well aware of the importance of Vitamin C. With a young son in primary school it is easy for bugs and viruses to be brought into our home. At this time of year colds and flu’s are rife and so it is always a good idea to arm yourself with all the information and the preventative measures that are out there to stop these pesky viruses in their tracks!

Our immune systems are liable to be attacked for many different reasons, a vast amount of factors can lead to us feeling run down leaving the gates open for bugs and viruses to get a firm hold on our bodies and leave us unable to function and perform our everyday tasks (or certainly not with any ease!) Stress, late nights and an imbalance in movement levels (too much or too little exercise) can all effect our immune system and leave us
feeling low.

This is where the importance of Vitamin C comes into play. Our bodies, unlike other animals does not make its own vitamin c. This means that Vitamin C must be consumed and this can be done through whole foods, such as fruits and vegetables or supplemented, with the popular choice being over the counter powders, tablets, capsules and fizzies.

Whilst these over the counter Vitamin C supplements and foods can help we can only consume so much before we encounter gastric upset as our bodies do not absorb all of the Vitamin C and rather it gets rid of it. Liposomal Vitamin C has an absorption rate of up to 98% as tiny little bubbles called liposomes protect the Vitamin C as it travels through our digestive system and enters the blood stream via the small intestine where it goes directly to the cells that need it.

Using this method we can gradually build up our daily dose of Vitamin C which in turn builds up our immune system’s ability to fight off bugs and viruses and we can pip them to the post before the grogginess kicks in!

Me and my family take our Vitamin C everyday and if/when we feel that oh so familiar cold working on us we take an extra dose to help the battle of fighting it off and for us it works a treat!

There are a few variations on the market but my favourite is Quicksilver Scientific liposomal Vitamin C. It comes in glass bottle (120ml) and easily mixes with my sons Orange juice unlike other thicker liposomal solutions.

If fighting off the cold isn’t enough Vitamin C also helps with Collagen production, boosting skin elasticity, promotes healing and so much more!
